Object Name Certificate, Commemorative
Scope & Content Copy of certificate sending sympathy to the family of Burr Plato from the City of Niagara Falls upon Plato's death, c. 1905. Signed by Mayor W. Phemister; John Robinson, Clerk; and Aldermen. Plato was a Freedom Seeker who travelled to settle in Niagara using the Underground Railroad. He was a very industrious person having taught himself to read and write while building his career and community. Plato was a long standing Councillor of the Village of Niagara Falls, though retired at the time of his death. Plato's contribution to the community was immense. See Additional Reference on page 275 of William Dalton's reprinted journal. Has been conserved (this is not reflected in current photo).
